Are all Gasolines the same?

Aren’t all gasolines sold at American filling stations all the same?
According to Dr. Fuel Good from Shell Oil CompanyNo.
ValvesContrary to what 70% of American motorist think, not all gasolines are equal when it comes to protecting the internal parts of your car’s gasoline engine. Pat Goss from Motorweek and his guest discuss this subject and show a few valves that are running “tier one” gasoline and those running something less. In as little as 5000 miles there is a significant difference … so perhaps I will not question my wife’s loyalty to Shell V-Power gasoline?

    Hi Rich:

Interesting. I wonder how much top tier gas we really get in Ohio since there aren’t any quality standards in place for the state (at least not yet).

Hmm … you are probably correct about that Mark. No check for quality, no way to know what gasoline you are putting in your vehicle. Although I suspect that most ‘corporate’ owned station claiming to have “tier one” gasoline probably do.

There is legislation afoot to make fuel dumping in Ohio a thing of the past … I assume that is what you are referring to in the “at least not yet” comment?

    Mark,

I’m not sure you are planning to check back (might email you?) but I receive a note from a source with Shell Oil connections that actually when out of their way to confirm that all the Shell gasoline sold in Ohio is “Tier One.”

They state that “Shell assures that higher quality with regular testing at random locations. So you can be sure that the quality of fuel bought at any Shell station measures up to Shell’s high standards.
