A virtual look at the new Palm Pre

It was a nice day to be a Palm user when on Thursday afternoon the company announced their long awaited smartphone with a new operating system (followed on Twitter). Palm TreoThe sleek new phone with a sliding QWERTY physical keyboard “looked” to be precisely what many Palm advocates have been waiting for — I’m looking forward to getting my hands on one. For now, I’ll just envy the photos and read the Palm blog posts.

  • Now to see whether Sprint and Palm get greedy. (Greedy = either the $399 rumor, or the Simply Everything required rumor being true.)

    And, hopefully the rumor from Ars Technica that not all apps will have to be signed is true.

  • I expect ‘greed’ to be part and parcel when introducing a unique ‘high end’ product with one carrier in need of some fast cash. They will try to make the money while they can and lock up as many to a 2 year contract that they can.

    The $399 price sounds about what they’ll be able to ask … unfortunately. I won’t be surprise if they tweak the usage cap or tack on a “special monthly Palm Pre charge” too so they can make extra bucks throughout the 2 year contract.
