Tech Friday: If you have a blog, control your own content

| February 28, 2014

Once upon a time it seemed smart to host only light content on my own blog. In the early days it was easy to store larger files like video, audio and photos “for free” with content hosts like YouTube, Flickr and Posterous (among others). The plus was that I didn’t fill the “out of pocket” […]

Reminder: Be sure to back up Posterous data before April 30th

| February 18, 2013

Although I’ve only used Posterous to update MyDesultoryBlog by email, I’m going to miss having a place to quickly send text, photos and video for personal archiving. It was a great product while it lasted … an all the coded shortcuts very cool. So tonight I’m doing the “back-up” of data … and will figure […]

Finally updated WordPress to version 3.3.1

| March 1, 2012

I did a little housecleaning to my blog today and finally updated the WordPress install to the current 3.3.1 release (Jan 2012).  (updated my WordPress.com “alias” blog and Posterous blog too … but am unsure exactly how and what I want to use the duplicate postings for?)

VW’s 2011 midsize replacement to be available as TDI

| April 1, 2010

I’m looking forward to the new Volkswagen TDI diesel Passat replacement in 2011 … built in America I might add. VW’s North American CEO, Stefan Jacoby, let slip that the yet-to-be-named Passat replacement – currently known as the “New Mid-Size Sedan” (NMS) – will be available with a diesel in both the U.S. and Canada […]

Will new legislation really improve our nation’s banks?

| March 16, 2010

I don’t want to be too critical about the ‘difficult for me to understand’ banking reform legislation, but after hearing comments on a WSJ podcast (below), the politically one-sided rush to reform does leave me concerned; it sure would be nice to have bi-partisan support for a banking oversight bill. My concern: If the Fed […]

Nearly One in Four Borrowers Underwater on Mortgage

| February 23, 2010

Looks like a serious problem for homeowners, mortgage companies and banks alike. It certainly isn’t promising for the new home market either. Nearly one in four U.S. homeowners with a mortgage owed more than their homes were worth at the end of 2009, underscoring the challenges facing any sustained recovery in consumer spending and housing. […]

Testing Posterous.com with an MP3 link

| January 26, 2010

Listening to Great Lakes folk singer Lee Murdock; a link sent from a sailing friend. For the most part I’m posting here to see how Posterous.com and the MP3 repost to MyDesultoryBlog is handled. EDIT: Audio doesn’t post correctly … tweaked for a pop-up MP3 Link instead.

Interesting Tailgate Art in Ohio

| December 17, 2009

As another test post, I wanted to test the “to posterous” email posting – since deleted with the close of Posterous.com.
