What some will do to digitalize their kids drawings #TBT

Posted By on August 13, 2020

There is no doubt in my mind that I would have tried to do this if Photoshop would have  been as advanced when my kids were younger DadPhotoshopsKidsDrawings2020(or if I would have been has skilled – I’m basically a retoucher). As it was, I did include one of Katelyn’s computer art pieces (on my Mac SE or perhaps Mac II Ci) for Taylor’s birth announcement, but nothing like this dad. So here’s an image for ThrowBack Thursday #TBT.

Tom Curtis runs the ‘Things I Have Drawn’ Instagram page from London and shared his two kids drawings online. As the BoredPanda.com blog comments, “the result is both terrifying and hilarious.” Of course when it is a good thing, you really can’t get too much of it so there’s a page1page2 and page3 at this point. Good stuff.

Here are a few more examples in case they disappear (more below the break):

Barred spiral galaxy NGC4907 from 270 million light-years away

Posted By on August 12, 2020

An image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope is just too beautiful not to include on MyDesultoryBlog. I many not be the biggest astronomy or space geek, but I do spend time looking up at the stars in the evening. Although I didn’t get a good look at the NEOWISE comet last week (not for the lack of trying), I do plan on staying up late or getting up early to try to see the Perseid meteors 2020 this week.

Seeing Near and Far

The barred spiral galaxy known as NGC 4907 shows its starry face from 270 million light-years away to anyone who can see it from the Northern Hemisphere. This is a new image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope of the face-on galaxy, displaying its beautiful spiral arms, wound loosely around its central bright bar of stars.

Shining brightly below the galaxy is a star that is actually within our own Milky Way galaxy. This star appears much brighter than the billions of stars in NGC 4907 as it is 100,000 times closer, residing only 2,500 light-years away.

NGC 4907 is also part of the Coma Cluster, a group of over 1,000 galaxies, some of which can be seen around NGC 4907 in this image. This massive cluster of galaxies lies within the constellation of Coma Berenices, which is named for the locks of Queen Berenice II of Egypt: the only constellation named after a historical person.

Happy Birthday to my wonderful wife and a few leftover photos

Quarantine Birthday Card Happy Birthday Quarantine Card Self EtsyIt is hard to believe, but it is that time of the summer already! Nope, not quite “back to school” time, but time to wish Brenda a Happy Birthday.BrendaAnnalynPool200808

In the year of COVID19 as the card front to the left says, we can’t go anywhere, but Happy Birthday.”

We’ll celebrate low-key at home since it is mid-week anyway, but I’ll use this birthday wish as an excuse to archive a couple more photos from last week and the weekend with the kids (we also celebrated with waffles and a homemade Bluebird house made by Annalyn and me on Saturday).

I “wasn’t” planning to include the “goggle-face” photos of Annalyn, but since Katelyn couldn’t stop laughing (or was it crying?) … I don’t want that memory to go unrecorded. I’m sure Annalyn will someday hate these photos, but as I recall … ever parent has one or two in their photo collections. Also … I still can’t believe how much Annalyn enjoys that old plastic swing from when Katelyn and Taylor were little kids.

With our family in town last week, it was a busy time. We enjoyed several outings, good food and plenty of pool time. Annalyn has really grown to enjoy swimming and playing in the yard. AnnalynRich_phonemaskShe loves the swing (Bompa needs to work on a bigger one) and riding the bike with training wheels to the back gate – it is a perfect spot.

Annalyn also worked on a few “projects” with me and gave a new Carpenter Bee Catcher to her mom and a Bluebird house to Oma and one for mommy. Ellerie was super content to watch her sister and all the goings-on and did a pretty good job of sleeping. I still think Katelyn and Drew left tired?

We ventured out into the Coronavirus world a couple of times and enjoyed some take-out food, hiking and a visit to Pyramid Hill Park and were lucky enough to get the last golf cart (thanks Drew and Katelyn, that really was helpful with Brenda’s back issue).

I probably should mention knocking off a stop on the Butler County Donut Trail too … although I didn’t really need donuts! (we did Holtman’s Donuts this time).

Music Monday: Walk With You – Ringo Starr with Paul McCartney (4: John Paul George Ringo)

Posted By on August 10, 2020

RingoStarr_WalkWithYouCoverThe song Walk With You is being included today to highlight Ringo Starr, but who can really separate him (or Paul McCartney for that matter) from The Beatles?

RingoStarrPaulMcCartneyWalk With You is a collaboration song released as a single from Ringo Starr’s 2010 studio album. According to Songfacts, it was also used as Starr’s entry on the iTunes exclusive 4-track Beatles EP 4: John Paul George Ringo and hearing it on SiriusXM “The Bridge” (phone screenshot right), it  triggered me to included it for today’s Music Monday.

Walk_with_you_promoIn a promotional video, Starr said that “Walk with You” was originally intended to be a “gospelly” song. Starr called Van Dyke Parks and asked him to collaborate on writing a “God song,” but Parks said he did not write about God. They reworked the melody and completed the track as a song about the power of friendship. During the recording of “Peace Dream,” Starr played Paul McCartney several tracks he had completed for Y Not. McCartney developed the “trailing” duet in the melody of “Walk with You.”LINK

Someone’s Tesla is plugged into my 220VAC welding circuit?

TeslaPackard_pano200807

We had a great time with Katelyn, Drew, Annalyn and Ellerie as they visited for a mini-vacation, as my daughter called it (family photos archived later in the week). They drove the Tesla Model3 down from Perrysburg and were able to squeeze in two car seats, TeslaCharging200806their luggage and a larger stroller. Impressive!

Drew planned ahead by purchasing an adapter to be able to charge using the heavy 220VAC circuit in the pool house garage which worked perfectly and charged the battery even faster than his dedicated circuit at home. My TIG (and MIG) welding plug looks as if it will work perfectly “IF” Brenda and I ever opt for an EV … or plugin hybrid someday? Nevertheless the pano photo above of the Tesla back to back with the Packard Hawk made for a good  “If you had to pick one” #automotive Twitter post.

Constantly re-stitching my floating beanbag chair

Posted By on August 8, 2020

SailRiteUltrafeedLS-1_ZipperFootAlthough I’m looking high and low for some material to replace the clearance foam bead filled pool floaties I bought a few years ago, I continue to re-stitch and reinforce the old product with “Brenda’s” Sailrite Ultrafeed LS-1.
Smile
The new stitching holds as long as the old fabric holds up, but sooner or later I’m going to have to replace all the float items (noodles, beanbag like chair) with either new material or find new ones. So far I have not been able to find this mildew and sun resistant two ply (coarser and finer mesh) material … so I’ll keep repairing until then.
