It is hard to believe that the Rolling Stones have been making “noise” (as my dad would have said) for well over 50 years. Wow … that is sounding old … but I was still too young to listening to rock n roll music when they started.
As for Jumpin’ Jack Flash from 1968, I happened to hear an interesting story on SiriusXM’s Classic Vinyl where Mick Jagger and Keith Richards recalled how the lyrics were inspired. Richards said he and Jagger were staying at his country house, where they were awoken one morning by the sound of gardener Jack Dyer walking past the window. When Jagger asked what the noise was, Richards responded, "Oh, that’s Jack – that’s jumpin’ Jack." The rest of the lyrics evolved from there (link).
