Music Monday: Remembering David Soul – “Don’t Give Up On Us”

As a “car guy” who grew up admiring the 1976 Ford Torino in the 1970’s television series Starsky and Hutch, I was saddened to hear of the passing of actor and singer David Soul. I always enjoyed his movies and TV roles … as well as his music.

So for Music Monday to remember the life of David Soul, here’s his 1976 hit “Don’t Give Up On Us.” All who came of age in the 1970s couldn’t help but remember his acting and music … but few knew that the B-side lyrics on the hit’s 45-record song “Black Bean Soup” were written by actor and Tiki III sailor Gardner McKay – an odd quirky tidbit. 😉
Soul was a three-pack-a-day cigarette smoker for fifty years. Although he had stopped smoking ten years prior to his death, he was seriously affected by COPD and had also had a lung removed due to cancer. Soul died in a London hospital, surrounded by his family, on January 4, 2024, at the age of 80.
