The 2015 Volkswagen Golf R Sportswagen has a lot to like

The VW has not promised the R model for the U.S. “just yet,” but I sure would enjoy driving one and thinking about it in a performance TDI diesel.
The R wagon will come only with a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic, not the standard six-speed manual available on the hatchback and which we’ll see in the U.S. (The DSG is a fine gearbox, but let’s pour one out for our European homies on this one.) The transmission is fed 296 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque from the EA888 2.0-liter turbo four and then routes it to all four wheels via VW’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive. VW claims a 0-to-62-mph time of 5.1 seconds, which sounds slightly conservative to us.
