Temps before Solar EclipseTemp after Solar EclipseOur backyard may not have been the absolute best location to view a perfectly covered sun for the solar eclipse, but it was very impressive.

Taylor took an afternoon off of work and  came up with Gigi in the afternoon (we are north of Cincinnati), and I suspect he enjoyed the viewing. We were on the edge of the “full solar eclipse” path, while Katelyn, Drew and kids were equally at the other edge in Whitehouse, Ohio (map below). Nevertheless our views were impressive as you can tell from my photo with my Lumix GX8 and 100-300mm lens above (the full perfect corona was SOOooo close). 😊

I set up my camera ahead of time on the tripod (see video with crescent moon) … while also placed a thermometer in the sun on a bush to see what kind of temperature drop it might detect (a noticeable 36 degree drop). The afternoon was sunny and warm with only a very few scattered clouds … so the viewing was excellent. Very eerie purple waves that do not show up well on this video.

As for NW Ohio, Katelyn and Drew took the day off to watch with the girls at their house (they had contemplating going on a mini trip last year). Their viewing was great too and I really enjoyed the video Drew posted on his Google photo account using a selfie stick. Thanks for a couple photos for MyDesultoryBlog.com archives!
