Music Monday: The passing of an old favorite – Jerry Jeff Walker

Posted By on November 2, 2020

Jerry_Jeff_Walker_sMusic Monday has highlighted the recently passed Jerry Jeff Walker before who is an old favorite of mine … especially when I had a bit more twang in my music taste. His Texas style and somewhat tropical folk sound assisted many a listener to quiet their weary souls. I favored his recordings with other artists including Jimmy Buffett and Alison Krauss, but love listening to his his own music like “Down in Belize” too.

Mentions his passing on October 24, 2020 would not be appropriate without playing the song that make him famous in 1968, “Mr. Bojangles.”

Jerry Jeff Walker | Mr. Bojangles

From Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefers:

In such a hurtful moment, I have to say, that I am SO happy that he drove me to Key West. I know I would not be the same person today if we’d only made it to Islamorada. That lanky frame, cowboy hat, and the Roy Smeck stage deluxe he smashed one night on stage in Key West may be gone, but that energy, voice, those songs, wry wit and wonderful laugh will be with me forever. Thank you Jerry Jeff. Love to Susan, Jessie and Django. So long Mr. Bojangles
