A quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson and a Roseville, Ohio crock

Ralph Waldo Emerson

I surprised myself in that I included this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson on a filler blog post before, but it is good enough to include again.

Also, I’ve also been looking for an excuse to post a photo of the crock  that has my college roommates hometown on it. I can remember visiting and hearing about his area as “pottery capital of Ohio” (see below) from him back in the late 1970s. This gave me an excuse to smile. 😊

Roseville crock

East Liverpool is widely recognized as the Pottery Capital of Ohio, a title earned through its dominant role in American ceramics production during the 19th and early 20th centuries.  The city’s rise began in 1839 when James Bennett, an English potter from Staffordshire, established the first commercial pottery there. Its location along the Ohio River and access to abundant high-quality clay fueled rapid industrial growth, leading to over 200 potteries operating in the area at its peak. At its height, East Liverpool produced more than half of the nation’s ceramic ware, including iconic brands like Fiesta ware by Homer Laughlin China Company.
