Music Monday: “Movin’ On Up” – Ja’net DuBois

thejeffersonsDon’t ask me what triggered the 1975 television show The Jeffersons theme song, but caught myself bopping to the tune in my head this past weekend (and I’m Ja'net_DuBois,_Good_Times_1976not really a “bopper”).

The All in the Family spinoff wasn’t a series that I watched as a teenager, but the catchy theme song written by Ja’net DuBois with theme music by Jeff Barry was known to all. Of course the comedy of Sherman Hemsley and acting of Isabel Sanford was pretty funny too.

Let’s just hope after including this song for today’s Music Monday that this “earworm” song leave my head. 😉

Ja’net DuBois – “The Jeffersons” Intro Theme Song | 1976

Well we’re movin’ on up (Movin’ on up)
To the east side (Come on, movin’ on up)
To a deluxe apartment in the sky
Movin’ on up (Movin’ on up)
To the east side (Come on, movin’ on up)
We finally got a piece Of the pie

Fish don’t fry in the kitchen
Beans don’t burn on the grill
Took a whole lotta tryin’
Just to get up that hill

Now we’re up in the big leagues
Gettin’ our turn at bat
As long as we live
It’s you and me, baby
There ain’t nothin’ wrong with that

Well we’re movin’ on up (Movin’ on up)
To the east side (Come on, movin’ on up)
To a deluxe apartment in the sky
Movin’ on up (Movin’ on up)
To the east side (Come on, movin’ on up)
We finally got a piece Of the pie
