Music Monday: How about Gene Cotton from a 1978 hit song?

While out and about the other day, the song “Before My Heart Finds Out” popped on SiriusXM’s The Bridge channel. 
I recalled the song from 1978, but not the artist Gene Cotton.
According to a Wikipedia post, it was from his 8th album, Save the Dancer and “became his greatest hit reaching number 23 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and spending three weeks at number 17 in Canada.”
