It has been 10 years, but a father’s impact lasts a lifetime

The Little Critter book title reads … “Just Me and My Dad” (the photo above just a few years ago) … but as I mentioned a decade ago after DadC’s memorial service … he
planted the wisdom of Proverb 22:6 in the way he lived his life.
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6
It is interesting how topics collide:
Last week, while Brenda and I were babysitting our two granddaughters, the topic of ancestry came up. The two of them are quite inquisitive for 5 and 8 (ok, normally inquisitive), and seem to handle the idea of having grandparents, great grandparent and great, great grandparents quite well (so as long as they aren’t thinking about death and dying and their own parents — a topic we avoided).
So we decided to talk about “Family Trees” and where we often get the information from: cemeteries. That peak their interest and they wanted to see photos of markers and a grave stone (yikes, perhaps I should have checked with Katelyn and Drew)? Since the girls mentioned their favorite subject in school was “art” … Brenda started to draw out our family tree from memory. The girls try to draw the “tree” part and Brenda the names. We soon realized it was way too complicated to draw a “tree” or keep the girls interested, so we gave up … but they did enjoy a few family photos and reading the dates on grave markers.
The topic did start me to thinking about our family … and in particular my father (and DadH) and how much I appreciated the positive impact they made in my life. It is hard to believe it has been 10 years.
EDIT ADD: This was sent as a text message last month from Drew’s Google Photos archive, I think? I thought it would be nice to save it (Keira and Ben’s Wedding in 2013).
