Will the April 2009 date hold for the Palm Pre release?

Posted By on January 31, 2009

Palm PreThere was nicely formatted datasheet (below) on the new Palm Pre  published at PDADB.net and it was interested to see the April 2009 release date, even though it is stated as “expected.” From what I have read, neither Palm or Sprint have said very much about what date the new smartphone will be available. Some suspect that the release date could be further complicated by Apple’s January 20, 2009 “Touchscreen, method, and graphical user interface for determining commands by applying heuristics” patent # 7,479,949.

There was also a very interesting article in Engadget from a couple of legal eagles discussing the likely legal battles over the touchscreen technology. According to their review, the jury is still out since Palm has had piles of PDA patents since 1984.  Let’s hope these two companies come to some kind of agreement so we the consumers will end up with a couple competitive products.
