Last week we enjoyed some time on Delray Beach with family

Wind blown sand on beachRichChrisBrenda on Delray Beach

We had a good time “shelling” even though the beach winds were a little more challenging than the Delray Beach, FL spring break normal (sand was on every towel and in every orifice). 😉

Brenda’s sister Chris and husband Jerry were down for a week … and are beach “diggers” (for shells) … unlike us – we are walking beach combers (and fast walking at that so I’m sure we miss a lot). Nevertheless, we all are happy with this years’ finds after the 2026 beach renourishment project

Besides the smiling photos of our mugs after a windblown day, I’ll include Brenda’s box of shells after our season walking the beach. It is hard to believe we stopped and picked up this many shells … although Brenda would clarify she did most of the picking up (FYI, I did most of the rinsing in the ocean and quality inspection). 😉  Good times!

Music Monday: The Temptations – “My Girl” (and nasty weather)

Weather in South Florida It has been a week of abnormally rainy and windy weather for the Easter spring break folks in Florida this week. Brenda and I have braved the elements (at least it is still in the 70s) and are keeping up with our beach walking now that our time down south is ending. Nevertheless, we are still enjoying it … and each other’s company. 😉

Rainy week in Florida

Weather aside, I’ve been humming and singing a few lines of “My Girl” while walking … to a singing along with my wife adding the harmony. It was an ear worm all last week so for Music Monday, here’s The Temptations version of the song Smokey Robinson wrote thinking about his wife. It was The Temptations first number-one single back in 1964 (lyrics below)

Filler: A very simple painter’s tape hack #video

There have been plastic snap on or wire paint can gadgets to eliminate dripping and prep your brush, but very few tips are as inexpensive and disposable as this painter tape hack.

Looking forward to Artemis 2 astronauts safe return #NASA

Space Video FeedNASA successfully launched Artemis 2, its first astronaut mission to the moon since 1972 on April 1. The mission sent four astronauts on a 10-day trip around the moon aboard the Orion spacecraft which travel further from earth than any human has ever traveled.

On Friday evening, the spacecraft will reenter the earth atmosphere and splash down off the coast of California. The mission restarts manned space flights to the Moon and an eventual landing in 2028. It’s a very exciting time to be alive … just as it was for “those of us who were around” during the Apollo space program

Tech Friday: Some interesting information on online security

Have you ever given thought to how much data is being collected when you are using computers, tablets, phones and devices these days? The answer would be A LOT!

If you’ve never thought about it … just ask the question, Thinking emojiwhy do so many Internet companies give away their services for free?

Beautiful views from Artemis II and not so from Sunset Blvd, CA

Artemis 2 photoAs a child of the space race growing up in the 1960s and 70s, astronauts and NASA could do no wrong in my eyes — of course I wasn’t paying taxes either. 😉

This past week with Artemis II traveling around the moon and further into space than a manned space flight as ever gone, we are seeing some amazing photos of both the moon and earth.

I can’t get enough of them!

On the other hand, when you think of beautiful states, California comes to mind … until you witness the political mismanagement that has been turning life there into a nightmare. The once magical Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood has turned into a skid row. Depressing. ☹️

Easter bunny community outreach and our family “goings-on”

Taylor as Easter Bunny with Deputy friendsOnce again, we were proud of Taylor and Megan for helping out Batavia Township with last weekend’s Easter Egg hunt. The kids (and parents) really had fun and I think “the bunny” and his helpers enjoyed it too. 😊

DKAE Maui April 2026

The Oostras returned from their week in Maui and from all accounts had a really nice trip. The flights were long, but the weather, after the prior weeks near record Kona rains, was mild and offered sun (but according to Katelyn — wind). But then again it is the tropical Hawaiian climate and one never knows.

Brenda and I enjoyed all the photos from our family and have also appreciated the great walking weather in Florida … and the MUCH larger “renourished” Delray Beach!
