Simple carburetor for Volkswagen aircraft conversions

Posted By on April 25, 2013

This is really just an archive of a message to the guy who purchase my project. He indicated that the parts have successfully been permitted into China and inquired on what carburetor he should put on the engine. The Aerovee kit was tested with an Ellison but it was my intent to use an AeroInjector (previously AeroCarb) on the 4 cylinder air-cooled Volkswagen based engine based on simplicity.

Simplicity in form and function! Utilizing what hydraulic and pneumatic engineers call the "perfect flow passage" AeroInjector_32the AeroInjector (formerly known as AeroCarb) achieves outstanding performance versatility! AeroInjector body parts are precision machined from solid 6061 aluminum billets.

There are only two moving parts… no float bowls or secondary jets to complicate things. A fine adjustment metering needle provides clean burning, smooth running, outstanding response, and fuel economy. Spigot or flange mounts easily adapt to popular aircraft and auto conversion engines. AeroInjector’s intake design accepts air filters or carb heat ducts.

The AeroInjector is available in 2 sizes and with any combination of spigot (top left) or flange (left) intake manifold and air box/air filter mounts, serving engines producing 30-125 horsepower.

A good phone, not a great phone – Walt Mossberg

The Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone … not a “must have” upgrade for Android users.

samsungs4imageIt has a bigger screen, higher-resolution camera, and good battery life, but Walt Mossberg tells us that the new Samsung Galaxy S 4 is "a good phone, not a great phone, and it’s not a game-changer."

What was the biggest news from Apple

Posted By on April 23, 2013

In Tuesday’s conference call Apple had reasonably positive news, or at least as expected news. The fact that they are increasing their dividend and hinted at something new in the second half of 2013 wasn’t all that surprising, but they are obviously convinced AAPL stock is a good investment.

Management announced it was increasing its stock buyback program by an incredible $50B to $60B.

After the big wedding weekend (4/13/2013), my daughter Katelyn and husband Drew, no longer fiancé Drew, left the Savannah Center in a helicopter for a short flight looping counter-clockwise from West Chester, Ohio. They circles south over downtown Cincinnati, the Ohio River and then looped back north over Kings Island, Mason, our house in Liberty Township (about 3 minutes into the video) and Katelyn’s Lakota East High School. The weather was perfect for the flight and the photos came out great … although Brenda thinks Drew should have been focused on his bride!

Spring as sprung and flowers are blossoming everywhere

Although we were hoping the tulips would be in bloom for Katelyn and Drew’s wedding (tulips for the “Dutch” Oostra … not that it mattered), they didn’t quite start blossoming until the other day. In fact everything is now blooming and the smells are fantastic.

Travel press for Cincinnati and Taylor’s upcoming graduation

Posted By on April 21, 2013

taylorsmugraduationgown2013I think we’ll spend some money for a meal downtown Cincinnati next month as a way to celebrate my son’s Geography and Urban and Regional Planning degree from Miami University. He will graduate next month and has spent quite a bit of time working and studying revitalization projects downtown (he does have his gown … so assume he will be graduating!)

Over-the-Rhine sounds like it is worth a stroll if the weather is nice and I know there are several eccentric restaurants, one that I’m sure Taylor will want to go too … even the Washington Post agrees (nice article).

Snippet below …

OVER-THE-RHINE

This picturesque neighborhood, named and settled by German immigrants in the 19th century, has more buzz than anywhere else in Cincinnati. Over-the-Rhine sits just on the edge of downtown and was the site of the city’s race riots in 2001. But block by block, the city and developers have retaken the neighborhood that was once dubbed the most dangerous in America and transformed its shabby but beautiful buildings into some of the city’s best bars and restaurants. Over-the-Rhine has the most Italianate architecture still standing in the U.S., and to many outsiders, it looks more like it belongs in Brooklyn than Cincinnati. A must-see in the neighborhood is Washington Park, which reopened in July after undergoing a $48 million overhaul to become one of the city’s favorite spots for concerts, outdoor movie viewings, food trucks and flea markets.

Close accident call for me today – Liberty Township, Ohio

While stopping at our local Tractor Supply today I felt I had a somewhat close call to an accident at the corner of Liberty-Fairfield and Hamilton-Middletown (Rt 4) today in Liberty Township – a few minutes sooner. I said a prayer for those being helped by the paramedics they were extracted from their upside down SUV. The airbags deployed but the crash still looked frightening.

Tech Friday: iOS apps stuck in updating mode

Posted By on April 19, 2013

waiting_iosappSometimes the iPhone or iPad will get stuck in updating mode from the App Store and no matter how many “kills” of the app or rebooting of the device the app continues to show a stuck progress bar or “waiting” message.

Often an easy fix:

  1. On the home screen, tap the icon until you see pause.
  2. Go back to the App Store and tap “Update” to continue.
  3. If it doesn’t restart, return to the home screen and tap again … usually the progress bar will continue and the app will continue to update.
