The REAL Valentine’s Day story … (yikes!)
The Catholic martyr St. Valentine was beheaded on that date in the third century, supposedly for breaking a Roman ban on performing marriages. Now in Dublin a church claims to exhibit St. Valentine’s heart; in a Rome basilica his supposed skull is displayed; in a Glasgow friary his skeleton sits in a golden box; in a Prague basilica his shoulder bone is an attraction; and in a Madrid church his remains are encased in glass.

While driving and listening to a few of my usual music stations last week … one being SiriusXM The Bridge … 
hearing Bonnie Raitt singing “Angel From Montgomery” reminded me how I’ve always enjoy the solemn blues sounds she can offer in her southern rock.
This make not have charted as a hit or even a single, but I do enjoy listening to it.
Below is Bonnie Raitt (her website) performing it live on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert a few years ago.
By the way, she also won TWO Grammy awards last week — Best American Roots Song and Song of the Year! 😮
Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl LVII

Super Bowl LVII between AFC Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles came down to the final minutes of the 4th quarter. The Eagles flew to a first half lead sending NFL’s 2023 MVP Patrick Mahomes into the locker room limping (again). After a long 30 minute halftime, Mahomes and his team was able to return for the second half with renewed vigor, Coach Andy Reed’s game plan clicked. The Chiefs offensively came out scoring over and over to take the lead as they dominated the Eagles on both sides of the ball for most of the second half … until Philadelphia scored in the 4th quarter to tie up the game.
As with too many close games, Super Bowl 57 came down to a questionable first down call with seconds to go … and a field goal giving the Chiefs the go ahead lead … and more importantly, less than ten seconds on the clock.
Congratulations to the Chiefs and their fans.
Reading list and current Max Hastings Vietnam history book

The WSJ reading list caught my eye this week … most likely due to "The Ship Beneath The Ice" book talking more about 
the story of 
Ernest Shackleton’s 1914 expedition to the Antarctic. I’ll be watching for it as a library ebook, but probably after I finished my current history read, "Vietnam: An Epic Tragedy 1945-1975" by Max Hastings.

Here are a couple of B-26 Martin Marauder YouTube videos to archive (saved to personal cloud too) due to my interest in aviation and military history … but also because my late father-in-law serving as navigator on “this beautiful ship” in World War II (I can still hear him saying that).

From experience, I do know that younggist children in the U.S. (often farm kids — or commercial fisherman kids) were responsible for home chores, pitched in with caring for their siblings … and over a century ago (thankfully) would be sent to work outside the home. But in many parts of the world, children learn a bit younger how to take care of themselves and their families. Here is one destined to work in a kitchen, or at least as a street vendor.
A bird feeder idea for those with access to curved glass

For those with with a love for feeding birds and access to a curved piece of glass (or perhaps the ability to heat and curve plexiglass?) … here’s an interesting project idea.

Although having this bird feeder in your window might get old after a while, it would be a great idea for those shut-in or able to convince an assisted living facility to be able to put this in a window.

Replaced the 5-6 year old battery in the 2010 Acura RDX

After 5 or 6 years, a car batteries no matter their indicated warranties, lose some of their cold cranking amps (CCA). If I were a “maintenance-focused only kind of guy,” I’d probably just replace batteries every 5 years rather than waiting forthem to fail. BUT … as usual … I wait until the winter when it is near zero degrees!
Since it is early February, it is of course cold. Brenda’s 2010 Acura RDX has been sitting for a month due to Brenda’s hip replacement (in the garage at least) and it failed to start this past week. After a quick charge and test, it started the car, but would not deliver the promised 490 CCA needed; the testing registered only 230 CCA after an overnight charge.
So … it is time for a new battery … the story of my life.
