Read this medical information the other day and thought it likely might be a question many of us may have when taking over the counter (and prescription) doses of the common NSAID Ibuprofen. Check out the full article on GoodRx.
How much does ibuprofen raise your blood pressure?
Studies have looked at how much NSAIDs affect systolic blood pressure (SBP). SBP is the top number when measuring blood pressure. It’s estimated that a person’s SBP will go up by an average of 5 mmHg after taking NSAIDs like ibuprofen.
Other research shows similar results. A review of five studies specifically looked at the effect of ibuprofen on blood pressure. This review found that ibuprofen raised SBP by about 3 to 4 mmHg. The people in these studies took ibuprofen for at least 4 weeks.
A more recent study compared blood pressure changes in over 400 people with RA or OA using NSAIDs for 4 months. Most people were also taking blood pressure medication. Ibuprofen caused a greater rise in blood pressure compared to celecoxib and naproxen (two other NSAIDs). The SBP in people taking ibuprofen rose by about 4 mmHg. In addition, almost 1 in 4 people developed hypertension (chronic high blood pressure) after taking ibuprofen consistently for 4 months.

Since I wear a Fitbit and monitor a few things like heartrate, exercise and daily step count, I was concerned when my resting heartrate (graph left) seemed to be rising? After talking with my daughter about it, she mentioned that it sure seemed to correspond to my COVID diagnosis. Hm???
Hopefully it will return to normal after this lingering dry cough disappears (it is going on 3 weeks!)

Well … perhaps not, but it did catch my eye. Each “sunny” morning the sun rises in the east and peeks through the trees. If there is wind, the movement as shadows cast on our driveway trigger a motion alert. On checking the driveway Wyze cam 3, a strange alien shape appeared on the driveway. Hm???
On closer inspection, the sun reflected off the 2nd floor windows onto the shaded part of the driveway and brightened up a couple of spots. So much for an alien lifeform.

It has been a perfect summer week with Ellerie and Annalyn and all topped off with our family together to celebrate Brenda’s birthday. Katelyn and Drew are taking the girls to Kings Island today while we recuperate and I try to get a few things done that have piled up from phone calls, emails and voicemails … and update “something” to the blog!
So this will be brief just to wish Brenda a Happy Birthday. Thankfully we are having perfect weather for our get together this weekend (tie-dye below, but more later from our week with the girls)!

As the Biden Admin ignores illegals pouring across our southern borders, cartels are taking advantage of distracted border patrol and ICE “processing” agents to flood the United States with drugs … including some that look like candy.

While discussing the “will it” or “won’t it” Inflation Reduction Act being pushed by Democratic leadership in Washington DC as a way to replace the failed 2021 Build Back Better spending plan by President Biden last week, I figured digging into the details might prove better than spewing left or right talking points. The bill really has less to do with the “name” and more to do with the political philosophy.
Progressively leaning politicians and their supporters see raising taxes on corporations and successful Americans as just and “equitable.” They use the power of the federal government through carrots and sticks as a way to carry out central planning. Democrats who for the most part support big government, raise revenue through taxation to fund their programs and distribute based on what “they” deem appropriate. The fiscal conservative sees smaller government’s role as focused on national defense and creating economic condition for the individual and business to compete successfully (inefficient government vs competitive private businesses). The preference is less taxation and reduced regulation and a smaller federal bureaucracy. When it comes to freedom, more left to the individuals and their local and state governments.
A few areas being addresses are obvious partisan handouts such as climate change spending and more health care subsidies even though the latest bill “removed the carried interest tax provision” and boosted even more for “our clean energy economy.” But in the end, the increase taxes being collected (with 87,000 new IRS employees) and disincentives for businesses without “green” incentives to expand, will result in higher costs on products and services to all citizens. In other words … indirectly we’ll all pay the taxes.
Lastly … will it reduce inflation? Dubious … but perhaps a country (world) heading into recession WILL eventually reduce inflation as we all get poorer. This is no way to run a country or a government.
