Music Monday: Get Closer – Seals and Crofts

Posted By on November 4, 2019

SealsCrofts_GetCloser_1976It is hard to believe that Seals and Crofts has not been mentioned on Music Monday? They were one of my favorites harmony groups back on the 1970s … but yes I did include their 1973 Summer Breeze Live version and 1972 Summer Breeze recorded version pre-Music Monday though.

After hearing Get Closer from 1976 on SiriusXmThe Bridge” the other night, I decided it was time to mention Seals and Crofts again.

Wishing my long time best friend Jeff Pitts, a Happy Birthday!

Posted By on November 2, 2019

As we joke every year, Jeff has finally caught up to me in age … and is now 60 years old (he is 6 months younger than me). We do enjoy kidding each other and I know my life would not be as full without him around. He has most definitely in my life for almost ever step of the way since college. The kids have never known a time without him around and suspect that even Brenda thinks of him as one of her best friends too.

So today, thanks for always being there Mr. Pitts and good luck with your new job … and have a great Birthday in Alabama with your dad and brothers (and I’ll bet you know exactly where we’ll have a birthday lunch when you come back?)

I’ll be kind and only post middle age photos. Here’s a trip to Cocoa Beach in the 1980s.

Those Chipmunks are outsmarting me again

It is proving a challenge to stay ahead of the growing family of chipmunks and to keep them from burrowing under our patios and sidewalks … not to mention a digging holes in ever bed and mulched mound. So far this year I’ve removed about a dozen,l but lately one of these little guys has been outsmarting me. Today the food was gone and door of the livetrap still open … hm?

Ah, I see … in order to prevent false triggers, I moved the cage too close to the bricks which prevented the trap’s door from dropping. Let’s rebait and try again.

What does moderate DEM Sen Manchin think of MedicareForAll?

Posted By on October 31, 2019

When it comes to politicians making promises and pitching far fetched ideas nowadays, the sky is the limit. The current crop of Democrats campaigning for their party’s presidential nomination have lifted the “sky is the limit” to “space is the limit.” The sales pitches stretch from free tuition and education debt forgiveness to buying votes by every adult would get $1000/mo (Universal Basic Income). A couple socialist candidates leading in the polls supporting Medicare for All as a health care replacement must think money grows on trees? Sure it would be nice to have “free everything,” but we all know someone has to pay for it and the more you tax, the fewer dollars for personal spending or investing. Take away the capitalist incentive and you’ll get a contraction in the economy. Some seem to think no matter how big the price tag, you just tax the wealthy and businesses more … that there will magically be enough for every social program … be it health care, education, housing, etc.

It is refreshing to hear a moderate Democrat unafraid to express his concern with Sen Bernie Sanders trying to sell his Medicare for All ideas.

The Washington Nationals are World Series 2019 champs

Posted By on October 31, 2019

The Washington Nationals proved they deserve to be World Series champion by winning game 7 on the road against the Houston Astros. The entire series has been nothing but entertaining as both teams performed unbelievably well on the road … each winning every away game. Last night’s final game started slow with a lead by the Astros, but by the time a pitching change was made by Houston, the Nationals never looked back.

The final score was WSH 6 – HOU 2 F.

One of the enjoyable moments was to watch the National fans singing “Baby Shark” … my granddaughter Annalyn would have loved it (it is past her bedtime but I’m saving a clip for her).  😊

There are few limits when it comes to loving Volkswagen Beetles – how about a 2-wheeled bicycle version? Pretty creative.

Do improvements in technology change views on abortion?

Posted By on October 29, 2019

It has been 26 years since the U.S. Supreme Court decided on Roe v. Wade. In 1973, our nine justices decided that pregnant women should have the right to legally choose an abortion (would it be different today?). ChannelMumUltrasoundOur national debate has continued non-stop for decades, but the call is getting louder to re-address the issue …  and the debate pits the right of a women to do as she wishes with her body (as well as the “being” inside her) against the what others see as the “right to life.” Should we be protecting the unborn?

It is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore  what we now see with the help of advancements in medical imaging, let alone what we know from botched abortions and early births. The decision is likely to become more difficult for those who already struggle with supporting abortion … especially in the third trimester or up until the time of birth.

It is likely the more we learn about the development of human life in the womb, the harder it will be to not want to do something to protect the unborn — a “little” progress towards protecting life is better than abortion on demand status quo.

BrendaRichDelrayBeachFL191022There were a few extra photos and some video of Brenda swimming on my iPhone from our Delray Beach, BrendaSwimminmgFlorida vacation last week, so I’ll archive them and make a Vacation Part 3 post (Part 1 and Part 2). Nothing spectacular … but viewing the video and listening to the water and wave below is is very relaxing. Now I need another vacation!
