Sugarsync account for free – limitation is 2 GB

Sugarsync Free Plan

Here a great way to try, or to just use without paying for more storage, my favorite backup and multiple computer file sharing service from Sugarsync. I’ve commented positively before and have no problem paying a monthly for the service, but here’s a way for students, skeptics and light users to give Sugarsync a ‘long trial’ for free.

Learn More – Free 2 GB Plan

What are the limitations of the Free 2GB plan?

  • You can only backup & sync up to two computers – with a paid plan you can backup & sync an unlimited number of computers.
  • SugarSync will store the current version of each document, plus 2 past versions. If you’re looking to maintain and access more you’ll need to switch to a paid plan.
  • The upload time on the 2 GB free plan isn’t as speedy as with the paid (download speed is the same).
  • You can only backup & sync up to 2 GB of data.

Do I get mobile applications with the Free 2GB plan?

  • Absolutely – we want you to enjoy the best of SugarSync – this includes our unmatched level of customer features you’ll get through your mobile phone.
  • We now have mobile applications for iPhone, BlackBerry & WinMo. All other phones with a mobile web browser can use SugarSync by visiting m.sugarsync.com.

I’m an existing user – can I change to the Free 2GB plan?

  • Yes, but you may need to reduce your existing data to ensure you’re under the 2 GB limit. If you’re on a paid plan, you’ll be able to transfer over once your paid subscription has come to an end.
  • The Free 2GB plan has some feature limitations – see above for more detail.

Learn More – 30-Day Free Trial

Is the 30-day Trial limited in any way?

  • No – the 30-day trial gives you full access to the plan, which includes backup, sync, remote access from any computer or mobile device, and sharing & collaboration features.
  • You can cancel at any time during your 30-day trial if you are not satisfied.

What happens at the end of my 30-day trial?

  • We will automatically bill your credit card and charge you for the plan you selected. If you’re not satisfied with your experience within the first 30 days, you can cancel online anytime with one easy step.

Can I start a 30-day trial then change my mind later and sign up for Free 2GB plan?

  • Yes. If you decide you only need 2 GB of storage you can cancel your 30-day trial before it’s over and change your plan – simply go to your SugarSync account page. Important note: A Free 2 GB plan doesn’t include all of the features and benefits a paid plan provides. Please read through the terms and conditions before you decide to cancel your 30-day free trial (you only get one!).

I’m on a 45-day trial of the 10GB plan – do I still qualify for a 30-day trial of the paid plans?

  • Yes! You can sign-up for a one-time 30-day free trial. At the end of that trial we hope you’ll subscribe and continue to use SugarSync for your file backup, sync and remote access needs.

Just another recreational activity for college students

ONU Ping Pong VideoHow many hours does it take to record a 3 minute and 42 second YouTube video of college guys shooting ping pong balls into cups?

Probably hours that could have been better used focused on higher education … but they now have a popular YouTube video to put on their resume … and who knows what might be a worthwhile skill. I’ve heard of “softball talent” as a hiring criteria, why not ping pong basketball?  BTW, I was surprised to see an “ONU” T-shirt, until I realized it was not Ohio Northern University (whew!) — the alumni of Olivet Nazarene University must be so proud.

Late spring T-storms and heavy rain to end the day

Palm Treo Radisson Rainbow

A rainbow was a welcome sight on the way to the hotel Wednesday night as the T-storms rubbled through northeast Ohio. The rain was heavy and traffic slow as I inched my way through Akron on I-76.

A little history behind Twitter from a Kara & Walt D7 interview

Walt and KaraDay two of the All Things D D7 conference had Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher interviewing Evan Williams and Biz Stone of  Twitter. The short on stage sit down offered one of the better reviews both the history and future thinking behind this fast growing social networking company (watch your audio volume in embedded video below — TV ads have nothing on All Things D video clips!).

Volkswagen Jetta TDI meets the Toyota Prius ad

kangaroo courts of ohioBeing on the Ohio roads regularly for business and pleasure had me pondering my home state’s ranking in the National Motorists Association‘s Memorial Day review of the least friendly states for drivers. The survey used 17 criteria that unfortunately placed Ohio just behind New Jersey as the most unfriendly state for drivers. The state rankings were calculated based on items related to specific traffic laws, enforcement practices, the treatment of traffic ticket defendants by a legal system might be  construed as a kangaroo court.

Looked at a new diesel Volkswagen Touareg V6 TDI

Touareg2 V6 TDI

Memorial Day weekend was the first chance I had to get a close up view of the ‘new to North America’ V-6 TDI 3.0L version of the  diesel Volkswagen Touareg 2. Most TDI advocates have been wondering just when the ‘realistic’ version of a VW SUV was going to arrive in the states … seeing the V-10 behemoth a bit of an overkill — it can tow  a Boeing 747 (not to mention it’s premium price).

Nevertheless, I was disappoint that the options on the model at my local dealer built a diesel Touareg that was a bit pricey; it had about $10K worth of options pushing the priced over $52,000 — that’s right up with the BMW X5 35d and Mercedes Benz CDI SUVs. For those trying to be a little more realistic, the base price of the VW Touareg2 V6 TDI is about $42,000 (about $3K more than a gasoline version) and is relatively well equipped. If you are interested in the one in the photos below, I’m sure Stew Williams at FairfieldVW would be glad to sell it to you — tell him Rich sent you!
🙂
Stay tuned for an eventual test drive report, but for now I’ll include a few untouched photos from my trusty Palm Treo 700p.

Memorial Day, formerly Decoration Day

Posted By on May 25, 2009

flowers on gravesWhile listening to my wife reminisce about Memorial Day days traditions when she was a child, I found myself looking down with a little embarrassment since I didn’t establish the same thoughtful traditions for our family. Disclosure: her father, WWII vet, was the only one in the family who actually prioritized the day. Nevertheless, the discussion brought me to thinking about the original 30th of May purpose for Decoration Day established in 1868: “designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land.” In 1882 the name “Memorial Day” was used in combination with Decoration Day, but it wasn’t until after World War II that it became commonly used. In 1967 Congress officially declared the day Memorial Day and then in 1968 the Uniform Holidays bill moved the three holidays of Washington’s Birthday (now Presidents’ Day), Veterans Day and Memorial Day to a specific Monday in order to create a 3-day weekend. The change from May 30th (originally Decoration Day and Memorial Day) to the last Monday in May.

Memorial Day

As I remember those who died in order to preserve and protect our nation by flying my flag at half staff until noon, I’ll say a prayer of protection for those who continue to do serve in our armed forces. Thank you for the freedom I enjoy.

Proclamation: How Great is Our God

Spiral Galaxies

It has been an emotionally tangled weekend as one of those parenting situations beyond my ability to intercede and fix has come up.  Searching for good advice has been challenging and I’m thankful to have a caring God to turn to, knowing that He is big enough to handle even my smallish issue. — “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” (Rev 22:13)

Psalm 113

1 Praise the LORD.
Praise, O servants of the LORD,
praise the name of the LORD.

2 Let the name of the LORD be praised,
both now and forevermore.

3 From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
the name of the LORD is to be praised.

4 The LORD is exalted over all the nations,
his glory above the heavens.

5 Who is like the LORD our God,
the One who sits enthroned on high,

6 who stoops down to look
on the heavens and the earth?

7 He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the ash heap;

8 he seats them with princes,
with the princes of their people.

9 He settles the barren woman in her home
as a happy mother of children.
Praise the LORD.
