Music Monday: Really enjoyed Super Bowl LX last night

Posted By on February 9, 2026

The best part Super Bowl LX, that saw the Seattle Seahawks top the New England Patriots 29-13, was the “non-official” halftime show over on YouTube.

Turning Point USA did an outstanding job with a variety of musical artists from a strings duet to country to rock … Kid Rock to be precise. It was very well done including my favorite by Robert Ritchie (aka: Kid Rock) toward the end that Charlie Kirk would have appreciated (be sure to watch if from 1 hr 10 min to the end):

“There’s a book that’s sitting in your house somewhere that could use some dusting off. There’s a man who died for all our sins hanging from the cross. You can give your life to Jesus, and he’ll give you a second chance …”

Olympic Gold for Ilia Malinin — Men’s Figure Skating

Ilia Malinin

Although the Winter Olympics has taken a back seat to Super Bowl LX and kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie this week, I’ve still been semi-paying attention to the U.S. Figure Skating due to both Katelyn and Megan. I passed along a WSJ article last week highlighting the “Quad-god” Ilia Malinin and have been hoping for a U.S. Gold. DONE!

Ilia Malinin leads Team USA to 2nd consecutive gold in Olympic figure skating team event

Team USA defended its Olympic figure skating team event gold medal on Sunday after Ilia “Quad God” Malinin ushered the team to victory at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, attempting a total of five quad jumps.

The U.S. and Japan were tied at 59 points before the men’s free skate, the final event of the team competition. It came down to Malinin’s performance to decide the podium placement, and the 21-year-old two-time World champion didn’t disappoint. He earned a score of 200.03, topping Japan’s Shun Sato (194.86) who substituted for Yuma Kagiyama who outperformed Malinin on Saturday in the short program.

Although Katelyn and our granddaughters were watching skating too … they did take a break for a little outdoor fun … as did we. Shocking amount of erosion on Delray Beach where we have walked out onto a deep beach for years. Glad there is beach restoration ongoing for 2026. 😉

Woodworking idea: A simple jig for my router table

Posted By on February 8, 2026

Spotted this simple jig for my router table that might be useful in the woodworking workshop … or at least looks simple enough to make – besides, I already have a couple bearing.

Just a bit more on the 19M Florida beach restoration project

Dozers pushing sand

Who as a little kid playing with Tonka toy trucks and tractors didn’t pretend they were pushing sand around like the aboveor previous? Some of us would likely pay to drive those big Caterpillar dozers … including my late father-in-law!  😊

Brenda Winter beach walking 260202As mentioned previously, we have had some very cold weather in Florida for a couple of weeks. It has warmed up a bit, but is still struggling to hit 70 degrees — but then again, it is February. Thankfully we’ve had some sunshine and we try to time our walks when the sun is out. When it is not, it can feel chilly even while walking fast on the beach. I laughed at Brenda wearing gloves … until my hand turned white and got numb!

Still we haven’t missed a day of walking 8 miles and I have noticed an improvement when checking my Apple Watch heart rate stats. Initially my walking pace was slower (over 20 minutes/mile) and my heart rate would regularly hold at over 130-140 beats per minute. After few weeks of walking, we’re up to 19+ minute miles and my heart rate rarely is rising above 130 … while Brenda’s continues to remain under 120, likely due to her dedication to daily “treadmill” walking at home.
Lesson: Daily exercise is a must!

I’ll include some additional Delray Beach restoration video featuring the dozers:

Once upon a time, I really wanted Datsun Lil’ Huster Pickup #TBT

Posted By on February 5, 2026

When I was 16 years old, I ogled the Datsun Lil’ Hustler pickup truck and would dream of traveling around the country camping and sleeping on a mattress in the back. Oh … to be young and dreaming Datsun 620again. 😊

Datsun truck

Social media automotive friends has me remembering growing up in the 1970s when they posted this vintage looking but obviously new ad (or fake ad?) of the Datsun 620 reborn and “Built in America” by Nissan. Who knows if we’ll ever see something like this on the road again … but if we do, I’ll likely take a look.

On the other hand, “life is good” and I’m pretty happy with not putting a mattress in the back and camping around America … although I suspect I could talk my buddy Jeff into going if Brenda declined — FYI, she would!

A NOAA image of the Arctic Blast that chilled most of Florida

Posted By on February 4, 2026

If you live anywhere from the Rocky Mountains to the eastern seaboard this month, you know it has been cold and wintery. If you’re in Florida (often immune to winter) … you’re freezing too. Here’s a NOAA X.com post with a satellite view of the “Arctic Blast.”

Followed by a video of Crystal River in Florida where you can swim in warm water where the Manatees gather.
