Semi-depressingly reminiscing about my childhood home #TBT

Our house on Lake Erie in 1967
My childhood home on Lake Erie in 1967

It is the time of year when we reflect on the past year … or in my case … the WAY past years. Last month, my brother Ron mentioned that the property (just the land) that Lagoon Drive house in the 1980sour childhood home was being listed for sale. We were both intrigued and shocked to see the asking price of $450,000 on Zillow … yikes!

Following the listing, Ron was also corresponding with one of the neighbor friends we grew up with who still owns the cottage next door (mentioned Jim Raab before). He ran across a old photo of our house — after we moved to Sidney — 15 or so years after our parents sold the house. The dilapidated shape of our once beautiful home was depressing; as Ron commented, “I can understand why the house was leveled.”

I prefer remembering the pre-flood (photo from 1967 at top), wintertime fun on the ice (Rich, Ron, Skippy and DadC on SkiDoo) … or even a  Google photo posted in 2014 or a visit in 2017 when Brenda and I were up in Perrysburg babysitting.

Tree house down after flood

So sad to see a post-flood photo (above) from Jim Raab with his late brother Tom and sister Rosemary … as well after our “over the beach” tree house after the tree came down (still thankful for all the great childhood years).

I’ll even archive the realtor photos below with a “cleared lot” from the Zillow realtor post since they may disappear someday too (below the break).
