Perhaps it is that I feel younger “again” or that this song just the good memories from earlier times, but I do get a good feeling when listening to Steve Windood singing “Back In The High Life Again.”
After a medically rough week … or several weeks with Brenda’s hip fracture and full hip replacement surgery… hearing this song on an early morning drive to the hospital last week triggered including it for this week’s Music Monday. Hopefully very soon we’ll be “back in the high life again.”

Brenda is making remarkable improvements (in my opinion) in her mobility after having expedited full hip replacement surgery on Monday afternoon at 4PM. 
As mentioned yesterday, she was released from the hospital on Wednesday night and after a semi-restful day on Thursday, began physical therapy on Friday. Katelyn came down from Perrysburg and was wonderful in both encouragement and bringing some bean soup and homemade biscuits/rolls (my mom’s recipe … so it was very appreciated).
Taylor also stopped to have dinner with us after work on Friday and before flying down to Florida to vacation with Megan and her mom for a few days. Nice.
Fazoli’s pasta and some get well artwork was sent with Katelyn from Annalyn and Ellerie.
After they left is gave me an excuse to look at the wonderful book of photos from our 40th anniversary trip to the Canadian Rockies last summer (Part 1 and Part 2) that they gave us for Christmas. It is amazingly beautiful.
On Saturday morning, Brenda started her PT after a good breakfast of oatmeal in earnest. She shocked even herself with being able to use her muscles to move her leg more than she has in nearly a month. It may not be pain free, but as I commented in the video … “amazing!” (only 4 full days after surgery)

Prior to Christmas, Brenda was moving furniture around in our carpeted bedroom in order to clean behind our king size bed and headboard. She knew at the time it was too heavy, but continued to push and pull with her legs and hip. When I got home, I noticed the bed and nightstands were out of place and asked her why she moved it by herself? But like we’ve both done before, we think it’s no big deal.
Unfortunately later in the week she realized something wasn’t right since her hip and leg were in serious pain and as the days and then weeks progressed, it became impossible for her to put weight on it. Out came the walker from her 2015 injury and the assumption she must have inflamed something again as she did in 2020 … when she received her osteoporosis diagnosis. Thankfully back then, she slowly recovered from the compression fracture in her spine without surgery, but now realized she should NOT be lifting or moving heavy items OR for that matter doing anything where the risk of falling is high (she still can’t resist climbing up on ladders, be it for decorating the house or Christmas trees). Bone health is a big deal ladies … start when you are young getting a DEXA scan, calcium and on strengthening your bones.

According to a NYPost article, millions of Americans may soon be entering “not stove season.”
The Biden administration is considering a nationwide ban on gas stoves — citing the harmful pollutants released by the appliances, according to a report.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is mulling the action after recent studies showed emissions from the devices can cause health and respiratory problems, Bloomberg reported Monday.
“This is a hidden hazard,” CPSC Commissioner Richard Trumka Jr. told the outlet. “Any option is on the table. Products that can’t be made safe can be banned.” The association that represents gas stove makers like Whirlpool contends that cooking on any type of stove produces harmful emissions.

As I commented on Twitter … “until nuclear fusion arrives in bulk, there are limits to living without fossil fuels.” 
We need political leaders, climate activists and business leaders restricting capital through ESG measures who can exercise a little bit more commonsense when it comes to restricting and going to war with US domestic energy producers. Natural gas in particular is a pretty clean option … and renewable biofuels are carbon neutral if that’s the big concern.

Perhaps the first song that I can remember hearing on the radio and remembering I liked was Roger Miller‘s “King of the Road.” I was probably too young to remember it clearly, but my mom and dad commented that I definitely liked it when I was just 4 or 5.
I do know that … for no other categorized music genre … the “honky-tonk” influence was appealing to me. Even throughout school I was secretly partial to country music, especially when it had a little popular flair – later I really enjoyed southern rock. In previously Music Monday posts, I mentioned Glen Campbell and Roger Miller in this post.
Recently Glenn Anderson posted the photo above on Twitter and it reminded me of Roger Miller and his big hit … so here’s an old black and white TV segment.

As long as the Federal Reserve is tightening, the obvious path for all stock and bond prices is down.

The saying that “if something sounds to good to be true, it probably is” came to mind as I re-subscribed to a WSJ.com and Barronsonline.com for a FIVE-year subscription? Part of me wants to believe magazine resellers are legitimately selling the digital versions for less than going directly to Dow Jones, but the other part of me wonders what happens when the subscription expires and the seller is no longer around – see below (I have used Apple and Amazon to subscribe before so who knows)?
I still question the 5-year offer but since I absolutely HATE the way Dow Jones markets their newspaper subscriptions, I’ll give it a go. They use low intro prices and VERY high automatic renewals. The last couple go-arounds I’ve had to claw back my subscription and charges after an automatic renewal … and then having my ID not eligible for special renewal rates until I’ve been unsubscribed for a while is a real pain.
So we’ll give it a go with an expiring virtual credit card number and then try dispute the charge with my credit card company if something doesn’t go as expected or seem quite right (already my call to Dow Jones has me questioning the sale since they do not sell any 5-year subscription plans … no matter the price).
